YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

  • No. Backwoods Suppressors are made entirely in Texas. However, that has no effect on the buying and transferring process. Getting a suppressor in Texas is no different than getting a suppressor in any other state. Just ignore everything you have heard about how HB957 “Texas Suppressor Freedom Act” made it legal to buy a silencer without going through the ATF NFA process. None of it is true. It is 100% illegal in Texas to own a suppressor which has not been transferred through the ATF.

  • No. You no longer have to pay $200 in tax on your suppressor. Thanks in large part to the efforts of Silencer Shop, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act has reduced the tax stamp required for every suppressor from $200 to $0. You no longer have to pay the $200 tax to buy a suppressor. This applies to all suppressors in the country, in every state. How long will it stay like this?  No one can say for certain, but long enough for you to get your suppressor.

  • The time it takes for the ATF and the FBI (the FBI does the NICS background check) to process the transfer of ownership of a suppressor from the gun store to you, fluctuates from day to day. Right now, the wait times are the lowest they have ever been! Will they stay that way? Probably not. The time it takes to receive your suppressor will likely become longer as popularity increases. But, right now, if you walk into a store today and buy a suppressor, you may have the transfer approved in a matter of hours. However, 30 days is a safe expectation.

  • No.

  • Your Backwoods suppressor is engineered to outlast a lifetime of use. For rifle-caliber models, the system is virtually maintenance-free; internal carbon buildup is normal and won't affect performance, though you can use a dedicated solvent bath for a deeper clean if desired.

Simply keep the HUB threads, end cap, and Direct Thread Adapter free of debris using a bore brush and your favorite solvent to ensure a secure fit. To maintain the exterior, any light surface marring or scratches can be easily buffed away with gun oil and a soft cloth.

Rimfire suppressors require more frequent attention due to the lead buildup from rounds like .22 LR. We recommend disassembling and cleaning these models every few hundred rounds according to the specific instructions in your owner's manual. By keeping your threads clear and following these simple intervals, your suppressor will remain a high-performance staple of your kit for years to come.

  • Yes. All of our center fire suppressors feature an industry standard Hybrid Universal Base with 1.375x24 threads, making them “HUB compatible”. This means that they can be used with a wide variety of mounting systems, including those made by other manufacturers.

  • All of our suppressors can handle some limited full-auto shooting. However, they are designed to be hunting and precision shooting tools, and excessive full-auto or mechanically assisted semi-auto fire will damage them.
